day #15: alexander, “i’m homeless, but i’m happy”

this guy some VERY interesting things during our 10-minute conversation. let’s just say his vice always has been and shall remain “interfering with himself”. that’s putting it nicely. super nice guy, though. says he served in vietnam and was a p.o.w. i really want to believe him, but at the same time i really don’t. you wouldn’t believe the number of times that i’ve heard the vietnam routine from people on the street. the thought that so many of our soldiers ended up on the street is disturbing. but you have to take everything a person like alexander says with a grain of salt. he did say one thing that really stuck with me. “i’m homeless, but i’m happy”. he really did seem happy, but there was definitely some internal conflict going on within alexander. i hope i caught that with this portrait.

  1. Sad, but true, fact in the UK is that 1 in 10 homeless people are ex-servicemen. If our armies trained soldiers as well for going back into civilian life as they do for killing, that might be different.
